Muster: chemical equation in “Alcotest”-tubes in black
From 1953 to 1995 “Alcotest”-tubes served as the dominant method to determine the degree of alcoholisation of car drivers (Manufacturer: Dräger Sicherheitstechnik GmbH, Lübeck). The system was quite simple: The test-tubes were stoked up with potassium dichromate and changed their color when alcohol-containing tidal air ran through them. Today small electronic devices with electrochemical sensors and infrared sensors are used for the same purpose.
