The discovery of the physical configuration of DNA modules in 1953 was the beginning of a revolution in molecular biology. For more than 18 months Crick and Watson had tried to decode the three-dimensional structure of deoxyribonucleic acid. At the time, scientists around the globe weren´t even sure that this molecule was the carrier of the genetic information of human beings. However, Crick and Watson believed it: “To us it seemed to be the secret of life and the most important problem that a biologist could solve”, remembered Watson some time ago.
Francis Harry Compton Crick (* 8th June 1916 in England; † 28th July 2004 in San Diego, USA) was an English physicist and biochemist.
James Dewey Watson (* 6th April 1928 in Chicago) is a US-American biochemist and Noble Prize Winner.
